- 1 16-ounce jar sauerkraut, drained
- 8 ounces Swiss cheese sliced
- ½ cup Thousand Island dressing
- 6-8 slices rye bread slightly stale
- 2 tablespoons butter for topping
- Optional: caraway seeds Dijon mustard
